My work takes me to a forgotten people… to children that far too many regard as “expendable.” One little one caught my attention on the last day of our ministry in Zambia. This sort of child always seems to catch my attention; not because they are outgoing and involved but rather, because they are alone. This little guy was forgotten …by the forgotten and he was all alone. No amount of coaxing or bribing with toys etc seemed to pull him out of his shell. He just did not want to be with the group. So as the other 200 or so children were enjoying songs, crafts and dramas , etc inside the building where we were meeting, he remained alone right outside the door… sitting and listening but not wanting to enter into the activities. So, I took the little craft items the other children had been creating and went outside and sat down with him. He didn’t seem to mind. His eyes lit up when I showed him the craft and we began putting it together. Afterwards, I let him wear the hat I had purchased at the market earlier in the week. It looked better on him than on me. I spent about 30 – 45 minutes with him. He never said a word. Then it ended. No, he never went inside and joined the others. He stayed alone most of the rest of the day. But I did catch him looking at me several times. I think he liked being remembered.
Here are some thoughts about Joseph that help me remember how God can use the forgotten. For maximum enjoyment and effect try to read as much of the story as possible. Please notice and pray with me the prayer at the end of this writing.
The story of Joseph Genesis 40-42
Vs 40:23 The cupbearer did not remember Joseph; he forgot him!
Vs 41:41 So Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I hereby put you in charge of the whole land of Egypt.”
Vs 41:51 Joseph named his first born Manasseh and said, “God had made me forget all my trouble…”
Bs 41:52 The second son he named Ephraim and said, ” God has made me (twice) fruitful in the land of my suffering.”
Vs 41:57 And all the countries came to Egypt to buy grain from Joseph.
Key points
1. Joseph was forgotten
2 In Gods time he was remembered and rewarded.
3 God made Joseph
a. Forget his suffering
b. Fruitful in the place where he had suffered.
4. Joseph, the one who had been forgotten, became the one EVERYONE sought out. He who nobody remembered became the one everyone wanted to know.
So here is a prophetic Prayer of application
Father may the orphan children of Africa, who are forgotten by most, be blessed by you in their suffering so that they forget their suffering and become fruitful in their land. May they become the ones every seeks to know, and the ones everyone comes to for help. In the name of Jesus we believe and pray.
